2D + 3D Game Tech

February 2011: Thinking of the GDC 2011 and hoping to learn some new things. But, this is what I did (still doing!) this month: Two different Indie projects this month, both collections of C# sub-engines, one for 3D in-game NPC-to-Player dialog as well as a Playing Card engine, both for Unity. I'm planning on making some of this into an Unity Tutorial and possibly as curricula for a somewhat advanced Object-Oriented Programming in Unity course. Also, early in the month, a bunch of us Colorado folks finished an game in 48 hours as part of the Global Game Jam (my 2nd!) It was written in C# and a I created a 2D animated sprite XNA module. College-wise, I've been very busy finishing another semester of teaching online game programming courses (C/C++) as well as another Game Design course (I love these since I get to get non-technical for a while!) Also, I may have the pleasure of leading some Senior Capstone Game Development courses. Android work continues as well.

January 2011: Currently working on an iPhone-to-Android port and another semester teaching Game Tech at Westwood.

November 2010: I team with a game designer, Anthony Tunis, to produce his game, Jump Angry Slime, Jump! that turned out to be a lot more fun playing than I expected. Anthony is an incredible game designer with a good feel for what is fun. He did a great job designing and managing the production of this game. I was glad to program it for him. He used a great artist too, David Freedman. Let me know if you want to contact either one.

June 2010: I finished my part (all the game aspects except the art) of the 3D version of Rockem' Sockem' Robots! for the iPhone using Unity 3D. The other contractor had troubles with the networking part and Mattel dropped us, conveniently before they paid us. :-)

April 2009: I finished a game I wrote in Objective-C and C++. It's called iRPS - The Board Game! and can be seen at my other site, www.ColoradoGameCoders.com. I will someday write a version for the PC and Mac.

January 2009: I finished a world editor for another game development company. It was a fairly efficient tool and produced a great tool. Now that's done, I've bought a macBook and will be creating a game for the iPhone/iPod soon!

September 2008: Making progress in the 2D game port using TGB 1.7.4 - very nice tool, some quirks and Torque Script is as fragile as ever. I'll post some tips on programming in Torque Script (and TGB) later.

April 2008: I am finishing up a 2D game in Flash. It's written using AS2 and is actually quite fun to play. I wrote it over a couple weekends to see how fast I could do it. The AI is pretty good, the graphics could use some work and the game-play is about perfect. It will be ported but befored doing that, I will add some sound-effects, some menu operation like "save" and "replay". Selling it? I couldn't sell a dollar bill - so that aspect escapes me for now...
